Brandon, how conservative of a lieutenant governor do you think Dan Patrick will be? We're just now receiving a statement from him saying "today Texas voters sent a powerful message to the rest of the country – the liberal, Washington-style agenda my opponent so proudly boasted simply has no place in Texas."

Another update for our election story, includes details on bonds and extent of Harris County GOP sweep.
GOP win big statewide, expect to do the same in Harris County
Houston ChronicleGreg Abbott for governor, Dan Patrick for lieutenant governor and Ken Paxton for attorney general, George P. Bush for land commissioner and Glenn Hegar for controller. Floor space filled quickly, with supporters in sport jackets and party dresses mingling alongside others in cowboy hats and T-shirts with slogans like "Keep it Right, Keep it Red." The defeat was pronounced for Wendy Davis, the North Texas state senator, in her long-shot bid to defeat Abbott, the sitting attorney general, in the race to succeed Gov. Rick Perry. In the race for lieutenant governor's race, Democrat Leticia Van de Putte, a longtime state senator from San Antonio, thanked her supporters and congratulated Patrick, a state senator from Houston since 2007, in a news release shortly after the Associated Press called that and other races. Harris County GOP chairman Paul Simpson said his party's expected sweep indicated the state's largest county was solidly Republican without threat of swinging Democratic some years. Simpson, darting to various victory parties, said that after election night Republican leaders must turn their attention to the White House. Republican Paul Bettencourt, vying for Dan Patrick's open state Senate seat, expressed confidence early, bolstered by a large margin in early vote tallies. Early voting in Harris and Fort Bend counties showed the controversial $748 million Katy Independent School District bond issue leading. In most areas of the city, clouds failed to deliver on their threat of rain as voters visited more than 1,000 polling sites. At Harris County Democratic Party headquarters, where a light crowd munched pizza and barbecue to a backdrop of red, white and blue balloons tied to tables covered in blue cloths, county clerk candidate Ann Harris Bennett told the gathering to be optimistic. -

Nationally, voters aren't happy with anyone.
Exit poll: Party leaders a drag on both sides
Houston ChronicleWASHINGTON (AP) â" Republican and Democratic candidates alike had to overcome voters' displeasure with their party leaders Tuesday as glum Americans expressed little faith that either side could get the U.S. back on course. More than a third of those who voted for a Republican House candidate were dissatisfied or angry with GOP leaders in Congress, according to preliminary exit polls. Voters' biggest concern is still the economy, the surveys of people leaving polling places showed, six years after the 2008 financial crisis helped propel Obama to his first term in office. Preliminary poll results show voters embracing some Republican ideas. Nearly two-thirds think the U.S. economic system favors the wealthy, a common theme among Democratic candidates. Two issues that have dominated headlines and unsettled Americans â" the Ebola virus and the Islamic State militant group â" looked like a wash. About half of voters disapproved of the federal government's response to the arrival of Ebola in the United States. On the economy, the direction the country's headed and life in general, the majority who took the pessimistic view was more likely to vote for Republican congressional candidates, while optimists strongly favored Democrats. Nearly 8 in 10 disapprove of the way Congress, currently divided between Republicans and Democrats, is doing its job, according to preliminary exit polls. -
